This technical glossary defines several words and expressions used in
forest fire protection and management. The definitions are from the Glossary
of Forest Fire Management Terms published in 2003 by the
Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre in Winnipeg.
One Strike Concept – A fire bombing operation involving fast initial
action and the delivery of enough long-term retardant to achieve the
initial attack objective in one trip. Note Litres of Water per Hour Concept.
Overwintering Fire – A fire that persists throughout winter months to
the opening of a fire season.
